Accreditation & Qualification
The world of dispute resolution is changing and we all have a part to play. As a professional, you’ll understand the harm conflict can cause in the workplace or at home. Mediation is a great way to deal with this but it is no longer enough. We always recommend using only the best mediators but there’s no way of checking quality, until now!
We have put together a new training programme which is more rigorous and demanding, supportive of new graduates and has transparent grading. The course is centred on a holistic view of dispute resolution and on the needs of the parties, rather than just mediation skills. Graduates will be able to mediate, coach individuals and groups, and better understanding the impact of mental health on people’s ability to self-resolve.
The Academy is an exciting new arm to Mediator Network and is part of our long-term vision to raise the standards of dispute resolution training and service provision. Anyone looking for mediators should instead look for Dispute Resolution professionals who are CiIDR qualified!
An overview of the Course:
The course is the Certificate in International Dispute Resolution (CiIDR) and will be fully accredited by Mediator Network. It combines mediation, conflict coaching, mental health, multicultural conflict management, business skills and practice development, as well as 12 months’ full support from Mediator Network – the back up of circa 200 mediators and dispute resolution professionals and all the activities we put on and resources we provide. We believe that all the aspects of this course are essential to be an effective dispute resolution practitioner (not just the mediation skills). We have chosen to work with Marie Coombes, who will be our course leader because she is a well-respected and Award Winning Mediator and trainer.
The usual mediation skills training course is usually delivered in just 6 days! That’s just not good enough!
However, we are delivering the course on a blended learning basis (so learners complete the work in their own time and attend 5x group sessions) with a limit of 12 learners per group. This format is better suited to busy professionals and allows them to gain more practical skills development and tutor time. Learners will take assessments and access materials online ahead of each group session so that the focus is on building up skills and knowledge in the group sessions. We then look after the graduates for 12 months to provide substantive support as they gain experience and develop their practice.
We only use Approved Providers for the delivery of our training – those who have undertaken a rigorous assessment process with us.
Changing the landscape of assessment
Our assessment process has moved away from the existing over-simplistic pass or fail. We’re implementing a grading system that shows levels of achievement (Proficient, Highly Proficient, Outstanding), and graduates will enter Band One of our new professional banding system – a life-long commitment to CPD and experience building. You can be confident that you are engaging with the very best practitioners.
Our Code of Excellence
This is a new and rigorous code of practice for all mediators and other dispute resolution providers and professionals who train and work with Mediator Network. This is game-changing in respect of standards and expectations and will set out a blueprint for such practitioners for the future. This is being launched at the beginning of March.
Our intake dates:
The course starts on 15 March 2021 and with a further group commencing on 14 June 2021. We will be announcing our first graduates at the beginning of July! So, watch this space for the creation of the next generation of dispute resolution professionals!
If as a result of sharing this information, anyone is thinking about training to be a mediator – then we suggest talking to us first. Completing CiIDR will provide a marque of distinction and will set graduates quite apart from those who have completed the basic mediation course elsewhere. Why not be some of the founding practitioners and be trained by an award-winning mediator?
The backgrounds of Mediator Network members are wide and varied and they tend to be HR professionals, accountants, lawyers, counsellors, social workers, and similar professionals. However, we get enquiries from people from all walks of life. That only adds to the richness and quality of those who join us.
For more information on any of the information above, please email us at Academy@mediatornetwork.org or call us on 03300 431 757. If anyone is inspired to train, they can submit an enquiry using our online form.
