Communications Data

Local Authorities can obtain:

  • Service user information –  e.g. the type of communication, time sent and its duration
  • Subscriber information – e.g. billing information such as the name, address and bank details of the subscriber of telephone or internet services

They are unable to intercept the content of any person’s communications (traffic data which includes information about where the communications are made or received) and it is an offence to do so without lawful authority.
